Stephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to reports on regional pay for teachers said:
“The Government claims to be in favour of social mobility this week. But their plans for regional pay will discourage teachers from teaching in poorer areas as they will be punished in their pay packet.
“While Labour narrowed the gap, Michael Gove risks undermining this progress. National pay and conditions, combined with some flexibility for schools is the fairest and most efficient approach.”
