Sharon Hodgson MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Families, responding to reports that Subway may open an outlet in a school in Manchester, said:
“Just days after Michael Gove launched a new school food review, we are now seeing fast food takeaways like Subway trying to move into our schools.
“The Government must get a grip on school food – a million and rising pupils are exempt from school food standards, we are seeing the return of junk food and vending machines and now takeaways in school.”
NB: Subway’s most popular foot long ‘meatball marinara’ sub has more salt, fat and calories than a Big Mac.
