UNICEF report suggests Labour’s good work to address child poverty being undermined by the Tory-led Government

Sharon Hodgson MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Families, responding to the UNICEF Report Card 10, said:

“This independent report suggests that much of the good work that Labour did to address child poverty is being undermined by the Tory-led Government. It says that child poverty will actually rise next year because of the Government’s policies.

“The Prime Minister’s own social mobility adviser has urged him to come clean that he will miss the legally binding targets on reducing child poverty unless he takes urgent action now to help families and get our economy moving again.

“Tackling child poverty should be a priority, but the unfair and out of touch Budget put tax cuts for millionaires first. And government cuts that go too far and too fast and the double-dip recession created in Downing Street will actually push more children and families below the breadline.”
