The Government need to focus on reforming teaching to raise standards

Stephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to The Education Select Committee’s report ‘Great Teachers: Attracting, Training and Retaining the Best’, said:

“While the Government obsesses with pet projects that can only help a few, this report is right that a focus on raising the status and quality of teaching is critical to improving all schools in England.

“The Government should see this report as a wake-up call. For months, Labour has been arguing that the Government need to focus on reforming teaching to raise standards, not just structures. Labour welcomes creative ideas to improve teaching and we will consider these as part of our Policy Review.”
